5 Great ways to detox your mind

Updated: Jan 3, 2022

Most of us are living busy lives filled with chaos, noise, and stressful events. This causes our minds to become filled with cluttered thoughts. We might notice we become overthinkers, easily overwhelmed or unable to focus on a given task.

Thankfully there are ways to combat a restless mind. Here are some of the most effective ways to detox your mind:

1. Meditation

Meditation is a powerful way to connect the mind, body and spirit at once. Through meditation you focus your attention at being present with yourself and eliminating the noise in your thoughts. This will help you reach a deeper state of relaxation and a more peaceful mind. Meditation can help you go through your daily life more calmly, able to become more self-aware and focused.

2. Journaling

Journaling is a powerful tool in helping you getting your thoughts out of your head and on a paper instead. It helps you organise your thoughts and declutter the thoughts that have been causing you stress. Try to write freely about whatever comes up and then gradually attempt to dissect each thought, where it's coming from, whether it's rational or irrational. Don't overcomplicate things and let your mind guide you towards where it wants you to go.

Journaling can be a bit challenging at the beginning but as you practise it you become more effective at jotting things down. Once journaling becomes a daily habit you will notice yourself becoming more calm and less cluttered in your thoughts.

3. Get creative

Creativity has been proven to reduce stress, anxiety and improve mental health. Creativity involves the use of the mind and body to create something. Similar to meditation it allows to declutter the mind by focusing on one task and cancelling all outside 'noise' and thoughts. From writing a blog post to drawing, knitting a sock, playing a song or even gardening; these are all types of creativity. Everyone can be creative, so get creative!

4. Take a nap

Taking a small nap during the day can have ample affects on detoxing the mind. Studies have shown that sleep has an important role in storing memories and processing information. It is therefore beneficial to take a nap during the day to help you declutter thoughts and process events that happened earlier that day. Studies show that napping helps you think more logically, stay alert, lifts your mood, and reduces stress..

5. Mind your mind

Mind your mind by becoming more mindful and aware of your thoughts and beliefs. Dissecting the sources of clutter and chaos in the mind begins with awareness.

Most of your negative thoughts are subconscious and come from a place of irrational fear. By becoming aware of your negative thought patterns you can challenge those irrational thoughts or fears that no longer serve you. For example if have a general limiting belief like 'I can not do this' chances are you will fail the next you attempt something new like starting a new business.

Changing the 'I can't' to 'I can' is a simple but powerful tool to achieving your goals. Having a more positive mindset is the key to living the life you want..
